“There was Anna Mae Aquash, my wonderful Micmac sister in AIM – scheduled to be a defense witness in my Fargo trial – who was murdered in South Dakota for being innocent and being Indian, her hands cut off by a vengeful FBI and sent to Washington for identification when they knew very well who she was. That was a desecration deliberate and calculated, an assault on our deepest and most intimate spiritual beliefs, intended to intimidate us at the very core of our being.”

– Leonard Peltier
